Refractive
Errors
Myopia
Myopia (nearsightedness) occurs when
the cornea is too steep or the eye is too long for the ray of light to properly
focus on the retina. The light is focused in front of our retina, which makes
nearer object clearer than distance ones.
Hyperopia
Hyperopia (farsightedness) occurs when
the cornea is too flat or the eye to short for the ray of light to properly focus
on the retina. The light is focused behind the retina, which makes distance objects
clearer than near ones.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism occurs when our cornea is
shaped more like a football instead of a sphere. This condition creates two focal
points in our eye causing a blurred or distorted vision.
